Why Alba?
Following a question by one of our guests, I would like to explain the geography of our
region a little more.
Internet provides all kinds of links involving the name Alba along with the Langhe region.
Yet a few more clarifications about this subject may be useful.
The road travelled by tourists from Milan, Lugano, Cannes or Zurich is considered to be
a "motorway" as far as the city of Alba.
Alba acts as the capital city of the Langhe and Roero areas.
The city of Alba has 31,000 inhabitants and an area of 54 km2. That's all.
Alba has a city centre and is surrounded by hills forming a kind of crown around the headof the Queen of the Langhe and Roero areas.
Alba has 10 farm holiday centres which you can find here http://www.langheroero.it/VistaGenerica.jsp?idGenere=39. Select "Alba" and "Agriturismi". It's all here.
Starting off from Alba, the Langhe area starts to the south and the Roero area to the North.
The towns in the Langhe area are reached by motorway after crossing the city of Alba and
then climbing the Langhe hills.
The towns in the Roero area are reached by turning North and climbing the Roero hills.
The Roero and Langhe areas are not Alba!
All advertising and real estate sales using the name of Alba do so improperly, probably to
exploit the reputation that the name Alba has established worldwide. Anyway, there is only
one Alba and there are only ten farm holiday centres.
It is rather like apartments on sale in Menton described as "MonteCarlo-Menton"; it is a
fine stretch of sea but not exactly the same thing. And this is regardless of how delightful
and enjoyable it is to stay in a country house in the hills overlooking Alba and just 10
minutes on foot from the city centre or the peace and quiet of a town in the Langhe area.
Greetings to all our visitors, friends and web surfers.
Have a good Winter.
Battista
